NBA or the National Basketball Association is one of the best known men’s professional basketball leagues of USA. It also happens to be the world’s most premium basketball league. The NBA was founded on June 6th, 1946 with its headquarters in New York.

Some of the crucial points about the NBA are:

The first African American referee was Violet Palmer, who was a part of the 1997 regular season NBA game.

An NBA Cheerleader earns approximately $56,000 a year.

Almost 60% of retired NBA players go financially broke after 5 years of their retirement from the games.

The first basketball player to have scored 100 points in a single game was Wilt Chamberlain. He created further records by having scored a total of 30,000 points in the NBA games.

Kareem Abdul-Jabaar broke his records by scoring a total of 38,387 points, thereby becoming an all-time leader of the NBA scoreboard. He became an author post his retirement from the NBA games and a cultural ambassador for the United States of America. In his career that spanned over twenty years, he only once made a 3-point shot.

Tim Duncan became a basketball player to keep in shape before which he used to train for becoming a member of the 1992 U.S Men’s Olympic Swim Team. When the pool was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo and they had to practise temporarily in the ocean, Duncan was unable to do so because of his mortal fear of sharks.

Paul Pierce who in spite of having been stabbed a total of 11 times on his face, back and neck, played 82 NBA games in the 2000-01 game seasons.

The original NBA league was founded with a total of 11 teams in its kitty. Over the years, there have been numerous team expansions, reductions and even relocations. Presently, the NBA has a total of 29 teams and one of them also happens to be located in Canada.
