Paleo refers to a popular type of diet that is said to be based on the actual diets of prehistoric men. Paleo is short for Palaeolithic, a period in time wherein humans only used stone tools to find food and for survival. The diets of Palaeolithic men are considered the main basis for the modern paleo diet. The food source of prehistoric men during the Palaeolithic times was presumably healthier because of limited access to farming and modern tools that came later. Modern humans are also said to be capable of adjusting to actual diet of prehistoric times because of people are said to be genetically the same now and then.

The paleo diet proposes more protein from fish and eggs rather than the standard pork or beef meat. More fruits and vegetables are also encouraged instead of carbohydrate-rich grains and fat-rich dairy products and other processed food items. The main point of the paleo diet is to copy the previous diet of prehistoric men and consume food that is considered healthy and less processed. The paleo diet is considered a good diet for people who want to have a healthy and fit body. Dieters and weight-watchers also advocate the use of paleo diet because of the emphasis on healthier food options and avoidance of processed, starchy, and fatty foods.

Advocates of the paleo diet often identify various health benefits of following a healthy eating program that is based on prehistoric or Palaeolithic men. Leaner meat consumption and high fiber intake from fruits and vegetables are said to help promote a healthier body through normal cholesterol levels and more disease-fighting anti-oxidants in the blood stream. People who are obese can also help lose unwanted fat and pounds with the high protein and high fiber content of paleo diets. Foods that are more natural and less processed are considered healthier options to various ready-to-made food products that are available in present times.
