What is MDAI?
Differences of MDAI and MDMA
MDAI is a drug also named as 5, 6-Methylenedioxy-2-aminoindane. This was developed by David E. Nichols at Purdue University together with his team. MDAI acts as a non-neurotoxic releasing agent and also as a highly selective serotonin releasing agent (SSRA) in producing entactogen effects in humans.
On the other hand, MDMA is 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine. MDMA is classified as an entactogenic drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine class of drugs. MDMA is also known as ‘Ecstasy’ or a recreation drug that is used to feel better. This drug is known to be used worldwide regardless of age, race and gender. This drug can be taken in different forms. MDMA has always been associated with parties and dance clubs.
Similarities of MDAI and MDMA
Some researchers have claimed that the effects that an individual can get from MDAI are just the same as with MDMA. The only difference is that an individual who has taken MDAI will not experience the same side effects that they would get from taking MDMA.
This leads to the conclusion that MDAI can also induce euphoria. It can also make an individual feel more intimate with other. This also shows that taking MDAI will also diminish anxiety.
Since MDMA has also been used in treating psychological and cognitive conditions, this also makes MDAI can also be used to look for potential treatments for mental conditions. In addition, since clinical trials are now trying to identify and observe the potential therapeutic effects of MDMA for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety associated with terminal cancer, using MDAI with the same results without the adverse effect will be an advantage.
Controversy on MDMA
MDMA or ‘Ecstasy’ is illegal in many countries including the US. Most countries under the U.N. (United Nations) do not allow the possession, manufacture, or sale of this drug to its people or to other neighboring countries as well.
On the contrary, MDMA is allowed in certain instances. The use of this drug is only allowed strictly for scientific and medical research only. Other than these reasons, the use of MDMA may result in criminal prosecution.
Use of MDAI in scientific research
MDAI and other drugs similar to it are used in many scientific research and experiments. According to some studies, the effects of MDAI have a lot of similarities with MDMA without having the same adverse effects that man can get from using MDMA or other drugs related to it.
Recommendations on MDAI
The use of MDAI has not been proven safe so it is not recommended for humans to take this drug until further studies have been made. Since MDAI is considered as a research chemical it is not advised for human consumption. MDAI has not been fully tested to guarantee its use and its effects on humans. Although there had been a lot of experiments done with animals, those cannot be enough evidence to prove that MDAI is safe for human consumption. For now, MDAI is just like other drugs that are still considered to be unsafe.
