There is on average 1 in 110 American children that have autism, translating to about 730,000 persons aged 0 to 21 having the disorder. This is according to a 2006 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although autism occurs among all races, ethnicities and socioeconomic groups, it is 4 to 5 times more likely to occur in boys than in girls.
