How many arteries are there?
More than 20 major arteries
It is important to know that there are more than 20 major arteries throughout the body. Needless to say, they branch out into many, many smaller arterioles and capillaries. This important network carries blood to all parts of the body. The major arteries are represented by the aorta, the main artery coming out of the heart, the coronary arteries in the heart and by the carotid artery in the neck. Keep in mind that each artery is made up of three layers: a smooth layer on the inside, a thick layer of muscle in the middle and a rough layer on the outside.
