Also Google Gabor Matè, M.D. who is a Canadian medical doctor who deals with addiction on the east side of Vancouver and is the author of several book including In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts. He also has some good You Tubes as well. As you well know we are all addicted to something but not everything that we are addicted to kills us as fast as drugs or alcohol. Another good book that he wrote is Hold On to Your Kids. His books deal with the underlying cause rather than just treating the symptoms.
