What is Yoohoo?
Yoohoo is one of America’s favourite chocolate drinks. It only contains very little amount of milk but this product is still considered a dairy product. It was in the 1920s when Americans first tasted this drink which, according to its bottle, is made from water, corn syrup, sugar, dairy whey, cocoa, oil from soybeans, non-fat type of dry milk, soy lecithin, guar and xanthan gum, and various flavourings. Yoohoo also boasts of a variety of vitamins included in the drink. These vitamins are riboflavin (vit B2), niacinamide (vit B3), vitamin A, and vitamin D3.

The term “yoo-hoo” was first used by its original maker, Natale Olivieri, to his existing fruit juices. He later used the same name when he came up with the now-famous chocolate drink. It was in New Jersey back then when Olivieri wanted to create a chocolate drink that would not spoil easily. With several tests and experiments, he was able to master the process and Yoohoo, the chocolate drink was born. Over the years, Yoohoo had several owners. To date, Yoohoo is bottled by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.

Over time, the original chocolate drink was released with many variations and additional flavourings. Various fruity flavours were added to the chocolate beverage to come out as different Yoohoo flavours like Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Orange, Chocolate Lemon, Chocolate Strawberry, and Chocolate Raspberry among others. Various other non-chocolate flavours were also released using the Yoohoo label and these include Banana and Eggnog. Today most of the fruity versions are no longer made. Only Chocolate, Lite Chocolate, Double Fudge, and Strawberry flavours remain. Chocolate Yoohoo is the original drink loved by Americans for more than eight decades, while Yoohoo Lite boasts of only 70 calories per bottle. Strawberry is the only fruity flavor left. Double Fudge on the other hand is an overloaded version of the classic variant.
