What is Victoria’s Secret?
Victoria’s Secret is an American retail chain specializing in lingerie. Aside from women’s undergarments, Victoria’s Secret also carries women’s wear as well as beauty products.

Victoria’s Secret was the brainchild of businessman Roy Raymond. The business started in San Francisco, opening its first store in Palo Alto. The business was started when Raymond tried to think of a different way to sell lingerie, a way where men would not feel embarrassed to shop for their partners by going through racks and racks of undergarment. Raymond experienced the same embarrassment when trying to shop for a gift for his wife. Victoria’s Secret was then born, Victorian era inspired stores that displayed paired undergarments in one size, combined with helpful staff who could offer assistance in identifying sizes and retrieving it from the stock rooms.

Victoria’s secret went on to become a retail giant, and was subsequently sold to The Limited for $4 million in 1982. Raymond went on to another business venture which ended up in bankruptcy. Raymond committed suicide in 1993.

At present, Victoria’s Secret is one of the most identifiable brands in retail fashion. It is known for the Annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which features Victoria’s Secret ‘Angels’, most popular of which is German born model Heidi Klum. Past models include Tyra Banks, Helena Christiensen, Giselle Bundchen and Adriana Lima.
