What is Tazorac?
Tazorac is a brand of topical medication with the generic name of “Tazarotene”. It is commonly used as treatment for acne and comes in gel or cream form.

Tazorac or Tazarotene is a derivative of Vitamin A and is said to be effective in the treatment of acne vulgaris. And since it is considered a retinoid, this medication can also help in the regeneration of skin cells, resulting to better skin quality after treatment. Skin pores will also be unclogged and the overall look of the skin will become smoother and healthier.

Various other brands of Tazarotene are available in the market today, but all of them are indicated for the treatment of acne. Some are also prescribed for the treatment of the scaly patches present in those with psoriasis. Since Tazorac has skin-regeneration effects, many people use it to minimize wrinkles and lighten dark spots on the skin.

Tazorac comes in .05% and 1% both in gel and cream forms. For people with acne, they are advised to thoroughly wash the face before applying this medication. Application of the gel and cream is to the entire face once a day. For people with psoriasis, Tazorac is applied only to the affected parts of the skin once daily. For wrinkle protection from sun damage, Tazorac may be applied to the entire face usually after moisturizing.

People under Tazorac medication must avoid sun exposure though as this medication will increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Everyone is advised also not to apply the cream or gel on the eyes and not to ingest it by mouth. And as with most topical creams, Tazorac should not be applied onto broken skin. It is also best advice to coordinate with doctors regarding proper dosage and frequency of topical treatment. Women who are pregnant, those with sunburn and eczema, and those with certain types of skin cancer are not allowed to use this topical medication.
