Schizophrenia is a type of mental disorder that is commonly characterized by illogical thinking and improper or inappropriate emotions or feelings.  A person with schizophrenia often has very disorganized thoughts and this will lead them into having some kind of emotional instability.  With irrational thoughts, people with this mental disorder are very hard to deal with.  Many of them will have a variety of emotions which make it even more difficult for them to communicate and socialize.

Aside from disorganized thoughts and emotional instability, it is also common for people with schizophrenia to have delusions and hallucinations.  Many of schizophrenic patients report that they are hearing several voices in their head and this makes them a lot more confused and unstable.  There are also some schizophrenic patients who have certain delusions and think of themselves as somebody that they are actually not.  The problem with schizophrenia is that not all people with this disorder will present with the same symptoms.  Some symptoms will also become apparent during the adolescent stage for both men and women.  other people meanwhile may not have any schizophrenic symptoms until in their 30s.

Genetics, environmental, and psychological factors are considered the main reasons for the development of schizophrenia in some people.  Medically, the unhealthy levels of dopamine in the brain are considered the major contributing factor to the various symptoms of schizophrenia.  Like other neurotransmitters, dopamine is involved in the complex exchange of motor and sensory signals inside the brain.  With dopamine specifically involved in the transfer of signals for individual thoughts and emotions, any imbalance involving it is expected to result to problems in thinking and feelings.  In terms of management, most patients with schizophrenia will be prescribed with anti-psychotic drugs or medications that regulate dopamine production in the brain.  Some patients may also be advised to undergo psychotherapy and monitored community-based therapies among many other treatment options.
