What is Plot Structure?
Plot structure refers to the number of plans used to tell a particular story. Plot per se refers to the literary element which basically defines the structure of the story. It provides the causal arrangement of certain actions and events inclusive within a storyline.

To learn more about plot structure, it is very important to know the five fundamental elements to make a successful novel. Most importantly, all these elements must be in the right order to have unity and conveyance of ideas in a clear and logical manner.

Exposition is the beginning of the storyline where the characters and the plot setting are established. It is a very salient part of the story where the main problem or conflicts are likewise introduced. The unraveling or exposition of salient characters, setting and conflicts usually occur in the first three chapters.

Rising action is another element which is the unfolding of the conflict or the problem. In the initial part of the book, you could actually find the main character in crisis. It is where you integrate excitement and tension in the plot. It could also contain the complications of the main character with nature, number of themes, society and fate.

Plot structure is also inclusive of the high point or referred to as the climax. This is where the main character eventually deals with the danger or event in the story. This is the darkest moment or the worst challenge which the main character or hero must face. Falling action or winding down is when the climax slowly winds down for the character come up with a decision or solution. Finally, the resolution or the end is unraveled. This part of the plot structure is also referred to as the denouement. It shows whether the story has a happy or sad ending.
