What is LWS?
LWS refers to the Logitech Webcam software, a program required by the Logitech webcam to function efficiently. This particular program comes installed on people’s computers when users try to setup their own webcams. When this software is running, the file “LWS.exe” can be found on the Task Manager list.

Users usually encounter LWS when the computer advises that this particular software may need updating. What happens is that a message pops out on the screen telling the user that a new version of the Logitech Webcam Software is available on the internet. Users may then choose to proceed with the update to avail of the features of the new version.

As for LWS version 2.0, the software requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher OS versions for it to run smoothly. At least 200 MB of hard disk space should be available and allocated for this application. 1GB of RAM is recommended but those with only 512MB of memory will also be able run the software. When video calling over the internet is involved, LWS works best with a high-speed internet connection, dual core processing power on the computer chips, and at least 2.4 GHz for the processor. LWS works for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP SP2, Vista, and 7. But in case the user prefers high-definition quality in using the webcams, 2 GB of RAM is required and the internet speed must be at least 1 MBPS.

Several updates were already made to version 2.0. Updates to the existing application include features for Twitter uploading, control of white balance, diagnostic tool tab, video recording quality option, and video and audio content addition to the Help Menu.

When the LWS.exe file is running in the background, it only consumes about 12 MB of CPU processing. But in cases that users suspect the behavior of this file, it may be best to have it scanned by anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to check its legitimacy. When installed, this file is saved on the Logitech folder under the main Program Files folder. For best advice before removing this particular file or application, users must consult with computer experts.
