What is Fayolism?
Fayolism refers to a management style or theory developed by Henri Fayol back in the early 1900s. The theory basically focused on supposed responsibilities of managers to ensure that all concerns are taken-cared of and no misunderstandings will occur between the management and the general workforce. With emphasis on so-called managerial duties, any organization is said to run more efficiently using the Fayolism theory.
Under the Fayolism theory, managers are to become efficient at what they do if they are able to practice five essential elements. The first element refers to planning and this basically involves a requirement for managers to come up with short-term and long-term goals for their organization’s future. Under Fayolism, planning serves as a guide and roadmap for an organization’s success. Another element requires managers to be highly organized in terms of preparing for the company’s future. All details must be taken cared of including resources, materials, tools, and procedures in order to reach goals. Without all these necessary items, managers will have a hard time accomplishing tasks.
Aside from basic planning and organizing though, managers are also tasked to be able take command and implement whatever is necessary. This is to ensure that they will have first-hand experience and information of their organization’s activities. Part of the essential elements of management is constant communication with employees to ensure coordinated activities and purposes. After all these elements are done, managers also need to know how to evaluate if all the organization’s activities were done based on initial action plans. All these elements form part of Fayolism and many of them are being applied today by various organizations. Many modern organizations also like the fact that employee concerns are being tackled through the coordination element. For many business experts, this part plays a very crucial role in terms of reaching goals and achieving continued success.
