What is CVG Airport?

CVG is the code given to the Cincinnati Municipal Airport or the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The CVG code is said to be a reference to the city of Covington, which supposedly lies in close proximity to this airport during its construction. The airport’s location is part of Northern Kentucky, particularly in Kenton County, in which Covington is the county seat. But only the “CVG” code is used when describing or mentioning this particular airport. And to those who are not familiar with CVG or Covington, they just refer to it as the international airport for Cincinnati and the Northern Kentucky areas.

The Kenton County and Airport Board (KCAB) is the company that owns and operates the CVG Airport. Operations cost of the entire airport is sustained by its own profits. No funding is received from either local or state taxes.

The CVG airport is about 12.5 miles from the downtown district of Cincinnati and can be reached through the I-275 expressway. In terms of area, the whole airport covers about 7,000 acres of land with around 2 million square feet allocated for the airport terminal. In terms of passenger traffic, the CVG airport is most often used as a transit and/or transfer point to other cities. Based on a 2000 statistical report, more than 20 million passengers made the CVG airport as a pass-through airport to other key cities in the US. More than 50,000 jobs were created for the people of the Cincinnati areas and Northern Kentucky as of the year 2000. This number is expected to double in just 10 years. Today, the CVG Airport is able to cater to almost 200 daily flights to more than 50 cities across the US and to some international destinations such as Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Paris in France, and Cancun in Mexico.
