What is a MRM domain?

MRM domain refers to the messaging model or domain that works under the IBM platform.  Through MRM domains, various message models may be created for varying message types and formats. The message types and formats may also be configured to integrate with the specifications of a message domain parser or the MRM parser in the case of IBM.  With the MRM domain, the physical format of a specific message type or set can be configured with its own logical structure.  Having this feature provided by the MRM domain, messages that are sent or transported as data streams will contain the exact details and specifications as dictated by the messaging model they belong to. The actual appearance of the message or data stream will contain its own logical structure which was defined using the MRM domain.

When sending out or receiving messages between two different computer terminals, both sides of the data stream must literally agree on the data and messaging structure or physical format.  Otherwise, the data stream or messages may not be sent or retrieved successfully.  Using the MRM domain as an option, logical structures and the physical format of message models will be specified and agreed upon by both the sending party and the receiving party.  In this way, successful data transmission or message sending will result.

With software written in various languages, the MRM domain may employ various messaging models to cater to the specifications and limitations of different computer codes and languages.  Message formats such as CWF or the custom wire format may be used when dealing with messages and codes written in C and COBOL for example.  The XML format specifications may also be used on the MRM domain to ensure that XML messages and its corresponding format will be supported during message sending or data transmission.
