Vincent Willem van Gogh was a post-Impressionist painter of Dutch origin.  He produced in a very short time more than  than 2,100 artworks, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings, sketches and prints. His work is extremely varied.  It included self portraits, landscapes, portraits and paintings of cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers.  He died age 37 from a gunshot wound.  Van Gogh suffered from a mental illness.  He lived at Prague, London and Paris.
