Robert Bowling, from the developer of MW2 (Infinity Ward), announced in March 2010 there were 25 million MW2 unique players. According to Blast magazine, the MW2-player population mentioned by Bowling comprises players from all gaming platforms: Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. In 2009, Modern Warfare 2 was appointed as the video game of the year by Time magazine.
