How many languages are spoken in Africa?
According to the Ethnologue website, there are currently 2,110 living languages spoken in Africa, which represents over 30% of the world’â„¢s living languages. The average number of speakers per language is only 344,291, and African countries’â„¢ official languages belong not only to the Afro-Asiatic or the Niger-Congo language families, but also to the Indo-European family, such as French and Portuguese.
