How many grams of protein should  be consumed in a day?

46 grams for women and 56 grams for men.

The Food and Nutrition Board of the U.S. Institute of Medicine recommends a daily intake of 46 grams of protein for women aged 19 to 70 years, and 56 grams for men aged 19 to 70 years. These calculations are based on the Dietary Reference Intakes released by the FNB in 2004.
