How many Cyanobacteria species are there?
The exact number of Cyanobacteria species is not known. It is important to know that Cyanobacteria, also known as Cyanophyta, is a phylum of bacteria that obtain their energy through photosynthesis. Moreover, Cyanobacteria can be found in almost every terrestrial and aquatic habitat. Needless to say, they are found in almost every endolithic ecosystem. Not too many people know that Cyanobacteria include both unicellular and colonial species. Believe it or not, Cyanobacteria are arguably the most successful group of microorganisms on earth.
