There are important differences between the state and private workers when it comes to the number of sick days per year.  For example, there are on average 10 sick days for state workers and 4 sick days for private workers.  The main idea is that providing sick days may seem expensive for employers.  At the same time, not giving them is also costly.  Statistics shows that even a typical flu season costs businesses about $10.4 billion in direct costs for hospitalizations and outpatient visits for adults.
