Ezra T. Benson is the 13th President at the religious ‘˜Church of Jesus Christ’. This Church belonged to the ‘˜Latter-day Saints’, since 1985. He was an American farmer and a great religious leader.

Ezra T. Benson was born on the 4th August, 1899. His birth place is Whitney, Idaho. Whitney is a small community in the Valley of Franklin Country of Idaho that is in the United States.

Ezra T. Benson’s birthplace was surrounded by apprehensive and troubled farmer family. Ezra T. Benson was the first child to his parents, Sarah Dunkley Benson and George T. Benson Jr. He was followed by 11 more children later.

It is said that the birth of Ezra T. Benson was in a very critical condition. During the birth it was stated by the doctor that they are not sure that whether they can save the child or not. But later the two grandmothers of the child helped in saving him.

Ezra T. Benson has always quoted in the various conferences that the praise goes to his parents for his great upbringing. His parents, like many other parents have helped him in growing up with great care. In the run of nurturing him, they have gone through a number of sacrifices. Apart from the theoretical education that he received, he also gained a number of practical learning from the day to day examples set by his parents. The most important thing that he learned from his father was to rise above criticism.

There were two affections of Ezra T. Benson. First is the lifelong love for the American boy Scouts and next ‘˜Flora Smith Amussen’, who became his companion for life.

Ezra was offered the job for a county agricultural agent because of his farming capabilities. He also served as the Secretary of the Agriculture of United States. Later on 10th November, 1985 he was appointed to be the thirteenth president of the Church of Jesus Christ. At the age of 44, he got a name of ‘œApostle’.

He was a great supporter of freedom. The year next to the year when he became the Apostle, he preached about freedom and motivated people about it with various examples. Apart from this he also counselled the people of the church about basic ethics.

The most important teaching that he provided people was to stay away from pride. He has not only advised people to restrain from pride, but also wrote about the various methods about doing so in his book of student manual ‘œThe Book of Mormon’.

In the last days of his life he was not keeping good health wise. But his influence was so addicted to the people that they still took advices from him about administrational quidances in different fields.

His missionary work expanded to the whole of Eastern Europe and also other parts of the world.

Ezra T. Benson died on May 30th, in the year of 1990 in the Salt Lake City. At death, he was 94 years old.
