Popularly known as LBJ, Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th president (1963’“1969), of the United States of America. He was an egoistic and energetic person who wanted to be the greatest president of the world. He was born in 1908 in Texas in the family of a farmer. Though his father was a state representative of a political party but the family was not very well to do. In his childhood LBJ had to do many odd works to meet the family needs. After his high school LBJ started his career as a teacher but eventually shifted to politics after earning his Law degree from George Town University. In his school life LBJ used to play baseball and used to enjoy debate and public speaking. He was from Democratic Party when he was a president and wanted his presidency to bring a new dawn in the USA. He was known for the designing of the Great Society where Medicaid, Medicare, Civil Rights, Voting Right, Urban and Rural development Acts were passed. Added to these LBJ is also negatively remembered to continue Vietnam War which brought great pain to the people in US.

The oath taking ceremony of LBJ was unique in its own way. After a short while President Kennedy was assassinated, LBJ took oath on an aircraft and he was sworn by a woman.

His was 6 feet 3 inches tall which used to perfectly compliment his arrogant personality. He was the second tallest president after Lincoln.
He was known as a competent politician of his age. He did many reforms in his tenure.

He was a brave army man and served in the military and in several combat missions he received Silver Stars.

All his family members have the same initials like his wife’s name was Lady Bird Johnson and his daughters were Lynda Bird Johnson and Luci Baines Johnson respectively. Even their dog was named Little Beagle Johnson.

He got married on 1934. Though he was very much a dominating husband but it is said that he used to discuss every lecture with his wife before delivering them in White House.

During his presidency he made important anti poverty policies and civil rights which prohibited discrimination of gender, race, ethnicity and religion.

One unknown fact about him is that he used to love giving gifts to his friends with an electric tooth brush so that people can think about him early in the morning as well as before going to bed.

He loved canned green peas and tapioca- in fact these were his favorite food. He loved soda Fresca too. In the oval office a fountain was installed to dispense it when he got thirsty.

Once LBJ was presented a portrait of his own but he rejected it saying that ‘œit was the ugliest object he ever saw.’

At the age of 64 he was died out of heart attack at the Johnson City. He was honored with state funeral after his death.
