Born on the 26th of April, 1980, in Cullman, Alabama, Channing Mathew Tatum is an American Actor, model, and dancer famous for his roles in the films “Step Up”, “Dear John”, “21 Jump Street”, and “Magic Mike”. His parents, airlines employee Kay Faust, and construction worker Glenn Tatum, were ever the supportive duo. When he was younger, Tatum had a lot of energy, and his parents let him play sports as a great outlet. Channing mastered the art of Kung Fu and excelled in football. He was offered a college scholarship to play for Glenville State College in West Virginia, but he turned this down to pursue his modeling and acting career. Fact 1: Before hitting stardom, Tatum had his fair share of odd jobs. He was once a bricklayer, a broker, and even a department store clerk! Oh wait. He was also a stripper.
Fact 2: Back when Tatum was 19 years old, he worked as a stripper. He mastered the Chippendale-style art of stripping, sporting the infamous baggy jeans and thong while on stage. His stage name was Chan Crawford.
Fact 3: Channing Tatum had starred in a Mountain Dew commercial, one filled with action, close-ups, and a lot of smoldering at the camera. Apart from commercials, he also got to star in several other music video as a dancer, such as Ricky Martin’s music video for “She bangs” back in 2000.
Fact 4: He first broke into the scene as a model and had appeared in the campaigns of fashion’s biggest names; Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Nautica are just a couple of the brands he was under.
Fact 5: A couple of years later Tatum landed the lead role in the 2006 hit film “Step Up” alongside Jena Dewan. The dance film’s success catapulted Tatum into the limelight even further, and cemented his status as an A-list star. Several other projects that followed include 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike. He is set to play the role of Gambit in the upcoming X-Men films.
Fact 6: As a child, Channing Tatum suffered from Dyslexia and ADHD. To be able to get through school the actor had to take medication, which he recalls as being “the absolute worst”. He felt “soulless” while on the medication, and says that he would never put his child through that.
Fact 7: In 2009, Channing Tatum married his Step-Up co-star Jena Dewan in a private ceremony in Malibu, California. Their wedding was fairy themed, and even had a cake topper of the two of them as fairies! It gets better: on their honey moon in Bali, the love birds got the Balinese words for “side by side” tattooed on them. They welcomed their first child, Everly Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum, in London in the summer of May 2013.
Fact 8: Jimmy Kimmel created a hilarious music video called “I Wanna Channing On Your Tatums” to promote Tatum’s new movie “White House Down”. Featuring Jamie Foxx, Channing Tatum, Miley Cyrus, and Jimmy Kimmel, the video was a hit. Needless to say, White House Down has got the publicity thing down.
