How I Met Your Mother (abbreviated as HIMYM) is an American TV Comedy series started on September 19, 2005. It was originally telecasted on CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) channel. There have been nine seasons of the show. The finale season began on September 23, 2013 and concluded on March 31, 2014.  HIMYM series was created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, who were also executive producers and frequent writers of the show. The friendship between Craig Thomas and Carter Bays when they both lived in New York City inspired them to produce his show. There were only four directors for the 208 episodes of the show: Pamela Fryman (196 episodes), Rob Greenberg (7 episodes), Michael Shea (4 episodes) and Neil Patrick Harris (1 episode).

Here are some interesting facts about the show HIMYM:

  • The show HIMYM is very popular in US owing to its unique structure and eccentric humor. In the initial seasons, the shows gained positive reviews but there were mixed reviews for the later ones. The show received 28 Emmy Awards nominations out of which it won 9.
  • The plot of the series revolves around the main character, Ted Mosby and his group of friends in Manhattan. Ted narrates to his son and daughter the happenings leading him to meet their mother.
  • Carter Bays and Craig Thomas framed the plot of HIMYM with an idea to write about their friends and the stupid stuff they used to do in New York as they had worked there as writers for many shows. The story of the show has been set up in a future-frame where Ted is retelling the story to his son and daughter in year 2030.
  • Ted’s wife played by Cristin Milioti is not revealed in the show until its final season. Her name in the show, Tracy McConnell, is announced during the series finale. The story of the show accommodates Ted’s relationships with other women and his dissatisfaction with them. Eventually, Ted found happiness with Tracy McConnell.
  • The writers of the show took in various aspects of each main actor’s personality and integrated them into their characters. This includes Neil Patrick Harris’s skills with magic, Jason Segel’s passion for songwriting, Alyson Hannigan’s absent-mindedness during pregnancy and Josh Radnor’s intellectualism.
  • There occurred a real event on one of the episodes of HIMYM. During one episode, Robin is found upset in the restaurant and she receives a glass of champagne with engagement ring thinking that Ted is going o propose o her. But, Ted says, “It’s not mine.” Actually, it belonged to another gentleman sitting in the restaurant behind them who gets up and says, “It’s mine” and returns to his table to propose o her girlfriend. This was a realistic situation and not a part of the script. The man had planned the whole scene with the producers of the show.
  • Allyson Hannigan playing as Lily Adrin was pregnant during shooting season four episodes where many TV tricks were used to hide her pregnancy using baggy tops and giant handbags. In the episode, “The Possimpible” Hannigan’s pregnancy bulge was shown with respect to the subplot in which Lilly wins a hot dog eating contest and then gains a funnily distended stomach.
  • The show was not filmed in front of a live studio audience like many traditional sitcoms (situational comedy shows) but the reactions of the audience were recorded and added for broadcast after showing to them the ready episodes.
  • The show received a total of 72 awards nominations out of which it won 18. The show was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series in Emmy Awards.
  • Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris have both received People’s Choice Awards. Harris also received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. The show gained the People’s Choice for Favorite Network TV Comedy in 2012.
