The Izmit earthquake is known to be the most devastating earthquakes in the last decade. This horrific disaster happened to on 19th of October, 1999. The earthquake was located in Turkey at the local time of 3.01 am. The epicenter was 11 kilometers south east of the city Izmit of Turkey.

The range of the earthquake was felt at a wide radius. Not only the general public, but the oil refineries, navy and other industrialized sectors were also affected by the earthquake. The earthquake was so strong that the shock was recorded even in Istanbul that is almost 70 kilometersaway from the epicenter.

There were many bridges damaged extensively and highways of the Trans ‘“ European motorway was also affected due to the earthquake of Izmit. The chaos was so much that it has resulted in breaking of fire in many of the refineries and also breaking many of the inbuilt water pipes leading to incidents of severe water damage.

The shock of the earthquake was recorded once in every 37 seconds. Though, in normal circumstances,this rate seems to be of normal level but for an earthquake, especially inIzmit, it was enough to destroy the city of Izmit and also other neighboring areas.

After the major earthquake of October, there were some aftershocks in the month of November that were enough to destroy and collapse the buildings, weakened by the Izmit earthquake.

Predictions came randomely from different sources about the size and duration of the next aftershocks, but things went out of control when the area was shaken up by a number of aftershocks in the month of November. The continuous shocks made the area fully into debris and thus leading to severe financial loss and civilians became helpless.
