Walt Disney World or more commonly Disney world is located in Lake Buena Vista in Florida, USA. Out of the 4 theme parks, Magic Kingdom was the first one built after California, Anaheim’s Disneyland in 1971. The remaining theme parks, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood studios and Animal Kingdom opened through the ’80s and 90s.

Below mentioned is some fun trivia about the much loved Disney World.

  • The iconic Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is not made of stone but fibreglass. It is 189 feet high and can be seen from as far as a mile away.

  • The Disney World monorail is the most heavily travelled monorail of the Western Hemisphere with as many as 50 million people taking a ride on it every year.

  • At Disney World, you would find a dustbin as close as 30steps away. Walt is said to have tested this himself concluding that an average person holds on to his trash for 30 steps before discarding them.

  • No shops within the premises of Disney World sell any gum. This is the reason why you will never find gum stuck on any of the rides, trees or waiting areas.

  • A signature scent for Norway was developed by Disney called Laila and made to resemble the smell of airy mountains. The perfume is sprayed in the pavilion throughout the day for guests to get a real feel.

  • At the Hotel du Canada, the red phone booth can be found ringing and a person answering the phone can have a conversation with a Disney character.

  • Disney World was created after Walt Disney bought 12000 acres of Florida Wetlands. This was done so that no environmental impact would be caused due to its building.

  • The 3 circle silhouetted symbol of Mickey can be found everywhere hidden in the strangest of places, being subtly hidden in room décor, or rock formations, at the corner of photo frames and table settings etc.

  • There are miles of tunnels underground running though Disney World that house large number of break-rooms for cast members, costumes, garbage chutes and for employees to travel from one place to another.

  • Hungry park visitors are fed from the 30 tons of fruit and vegetables produced each year.

  • The lost and found section in Disney World has over 200 pairs of sunglasses deposited every day.

  • The Rocking Roller coaster is the first inverter coaster to be created and even the first one to have its own synchronised soundtrack.

  • Walt Disney World is one of the largest employers with as many as 60,000 cast members working at the theme park.

  • Disney World has its own power plant.

  • The Cinderella castle at Magic Kingdom has its own secret hotel suite with provision for 6 people and a flat screen TV along with other amenities. It is not open for reservation; one has to be the lucky person chosen at random from among the guest visitors each day.

When Disney World opened up in 1971, there were as many as 10,000 visitors every day which has risen to 50,000 at present. It is a whole different world out there and thousands of employees who work hard each day to keep the show running.
