There are many fascinating arguments for and against the existence of God, an all perfect spirit that governs the world.

Here are 14 facts that are sure to entertain people on both sides of this inflammatory debate.

Fact 1: The Bible was written over a period of 1600 years, from about 1,500 B.C. to 100 A.D, by forty different people. It contains 66 smaller books; those of the Old Testament were written before the birth of Jesus Christ, while those of the New Testament cover the life of Jesus and beyond.

Fact 2: The first translation of the Bible made into English was in 1382 A.D. by John Wycliff. It was first printed in 1454 A.D. by Johannes Gutenberg and represents the first book ever printed.

Fact 3: The Bible has been translated into 2,018 languages!

Fact 4: The word „God“ occurs in the Bible 4,370 times, the word „Jehovah“ 6,855 times and the word „Lord“ a total of 7,736 times.

 Fact 5: A number of modern inventions are mentioned in the Bible, such as the automobile – Nahum 2:4, and the airplane – Isaiah 31:5,  Isaiah 31;5, Isaiah 60:8, Jeremiah 48:40 and Ezekiel 1:9.

 

Fact 6: George Washington said; “It’s impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible”.

 

Fact 7: Cats are the only domestic animal not mentioned in the Bible.

 

Fact 8: The Bible is reported to be the number one shoplifted book in America.

 

Fact 9: Adam and Eve were not expelled from Eden for eating fruit from the forbidden tree, but in order to prevent them from eating from the tree of life which would have made them eternal. Both trees are mentioned in Genesis 2:9.

 

Fact 10: There weren’t necessarily three wise men, people assumed so because of the three gifts that were given: gold, incense and myrrh. However, the Bible doesn’t actually tell us the number of wise men. Another common misconception is that the wise men visited Jesus at the stable on the night of His birth. Matthew 2:11 says the wise men visited Jesus in a house and not a stable, and in fact they come days, months and even years after His birth.

 

Fact 11: Everyone wishes to know what God looks like. Revelation 1:14-16 declares “His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters”. However, Exodus 33:20 warns “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live”.

Fact 12: In 1959 a Turkish pilot took photos of a boat-shaped object located on top of Mount Ararat. After analysis at the Geodetic Institute of Turkey it was determined that the object was 300 cubits, the stated length of Noah’s ark, and after careful examination scientist found extinct rodent hair, organic fossilized animal droppings, human hair and other fossilized animal remnants inside the boat. The location was soon proclaimed a national park containing the remains of Noah’s ark!

Fact 13: Roman historians wrote about the rise of Christianity and confirmed the presence of Christ. Tacitus, one of the greatest Roman historians, born c. 52-56 AD, in the recount of the reign of Nero in 110 A.D. wrote: “…Christus, from whom they got their name, had been executed by sentence of the procurator Pontius Pilate when Tiberias was emperor; and the pernicious superstition was checked for a short time only to break out afresh, not only in Judea, the home of the plague, but in Rome itself” (Annals 15:44)

Fact 14: Morgan Freeman was the first black man to portray God on the big screen!
