Saudi Arabia is a monarchy based on the Islam religion. The Saudi Arabia’s government is headed a King also happens to be the Commander in Chief of the Saudi Arabia’s military defense forces. It is the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad; the Chief Islamic Prophet and founder of the Islam religion hence referred to as the “birthplace of Islam religion.” It is also the home to two holy mosques in the Islam religion suited in Mecca and Medina. One of the king’s official assignments is to be the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Saudi Arabia has interesting facts some of which have been listed below:
Fact 1: Saudi Arabia is the 13th largest Country in the world and the largest country in the Middle East with a total area of about 531,199,968 Acres (2,149,690 Km2). This is almost a quarter the size of the United States.
Fact 2: Saudi Arabia is the largest known country in the world that has no river (even the seasonal rivers).
Fact 3: The flag of Saudi Arabia is green in color and features a white inscription above a white horizontal sword with the tip of the sword pointing to the hoist side of the flag. The text is known as Shahada which is the Islamic statement of faith that states, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet.” The flag was officially adopted on March 15, 1973. The Official Emblem of Saudi Arabia is a date palm which represents vitality and growth, and two crossed swords that symbolize justice and strength in Saudi Arabia.
Fact 4: Saudi Arabia is one of the most generous countries existing in the world. It donates over 4 billion U.S dollars in aid each year to the developing and disaster-torn countries.
Fact 5: Saudi Arabia very wealthy that the king gives away money literally. People actually walk to the gates of the royal palace to request for food, money etc.
Fact 6: Saudi Arabia has an oil field that is enough to fill about 4,770,897 Olympics certified swimming pools. The Ghawar oil field is the largest oil field in the world and it is estimated to have more than 70 billion barrels of oil left.
Fact 7: In 2018, the title of the world’s tallest building will belong to the Kingdom Tower; it is the centerpiece of a new city being built on Saudi Arabia’s coast. The Kingdom Tower is set to be the first building in the world to reach more than a kilometer (3,280 ft) into the air and will include a hotel, observatory, and office spaces as well as apartments.
Fact 8: Saudi Arabia is the country with the highest fatalities per head based on the World Bank report which was released in 2000. In fact, the fatalities are even worse in this country compared to countries like Malaysia, South Africa and Thailand which has recorded high number of fatalities per head of population. Therefore, Saudi Arabia is the worst country in which to drive.
Fact 9: According to the CIA fact book, about 47% of the total population of Saudi Arabia is under 24 years of age. More than a quarter of the Saudi Arabia’s population is under 14 years old
Fact 10: Saudi Arabia possesses approximately 16% of the world’s oil reserves. It is the world’s largest exporter of petroleum liquids and relies on the oil industry for almost half of its GDP.
Fact 11: Instead of just investing in the oil sector alone, Saudi Arabia initiated plans of building six cities commonly referred to as “the six economic cities”. The cities are expected to add an amount that is 2.7 times as large as the Kenya’s total GDP. According to the World Bank data of 2013, Kenya’s GDP is at $55.24 billion this means that the economic cities will add about $150 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP.
Fact 12: Saudi Arabia is considering of doing away with the death penalty by means of beheading due to the shortage of swordsmen in the country.
