Pakistan is a large nation in South Asia with a population of almost 200 million.  Majority of the people of Pakistan are Muslims and many of them live in the mega city of Karachi, the capital with 14 million residents and other large cities like Lahore and Faisalabad among others.  Pakistan is a growing and developing country with a rich history and a bounty of resources to offer its visitors and guests.  The following are some facts about Pakistan:

Fact 1:  Pakistan is used to be part of a bigger piece of land called British India. Present-day Pakistan is what remains of the partition that divided the West from the East.  The western part became part of Pakistan and the eastern part is now owned by Bangladesh. The division was said to have resulted because of religious concerns between the residents of the western and eastern parts of British India.

Fact 2: Many Pakistanis are among the brightest in the world.  With a population of about 200 million people, Pakistan has produced several scientists, technology experts, and engineers making it rank among the top 10 intelligent countries according to the poll conducted by the European Business Administration.

Fact 3: Pakistan is actually an ally of the United States in its campaign against terrorism.  Many news reports may have linked Pakistan to various terror suspects and groups but the country actually supports the US against these terrorists especially after the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in US soil.

Fact 4:  The world’s number 1 terrorist Osama bin Laden was killed and captured in Pakistan.  10 years after the 9/11 attacks in the US, the main suspect bin Laden was finally shot dead in the city of Abbottabad.

Fact 5:  Pakistan is a high-performer in the world’s financial markets.  With a huge population to support its financial activities, Pakistan is considered to be a great potential in terms of its economy.  The country’s trading in the world stock exchange is ranked number 2 and its national economy is among the top 30 in the world.

Fact 6:  Pakistan’s army is one of the largest in the world.  With troops reaching more than 600,000 people, Pakistan’s armed forces is so large that it actually sends the most troops to the UN for peacekeeping purposes.

Fact 7:  The mountain ranges of Pakistan are also famous among mountain climbers.  Dubbed as the rooftop of the world, Pakistan’s Trango Towers in Gilgit-Balistan is said to be the highest vertical mountain in the planet.

Fact 8:  The largest man-made forest is located in Pakistan.  Changa Manga has an area of about 12,000 acres and is manually developed and planned to become a huge forest with thick vegetation and several species of plants and animals.

 Fact 9:  Pakistan also became famous for the destructive flooding of 2010.  Almost the entire country was wiped out with the great flood of 2010 that started from the northern regions and eventually reaching the provinces of the south.  A total of 20 million people were displaced by the floods and thousands died during this troubled times in the country.

Fact 10:  The largest ambulance network in the world is found in Pakistan courtesy of the EDHI Foundation. This foundation is Pakistan’s biggest provider of social welfare programs to the country’s own indigent and poor residents.
