Muhammad Ali is a famous American boxer and is known to be one of the greatest heavyweights in United States’ the 20th century. He has been an icon of vigor and true boxing sports, aside from the many boxers in America’s sports history, because of his amazing record in boxing and diversities of skills. But how much do you really know about this guy? Well, there are quite a number of crazy things associated to his being the “greatest” boxer. And here are the top 10 facts that you really want to know about Muhammad Ali.

Fact #1: Muhammad Ali’s boxing career spurred from a bicycle theft experience. In October 1954 while he was only 12 years old, he lost his bike to an unknown theft. This prompt to see Joe Martin, a policeman and a boxing coach who taught him to stand and fight. He trained Ali in boxing and six weeks, he won in a split decision against another kid Ronny O’Keefe.

Fact #2: His original name is Cassius Marcellus Clay.  He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Cash Clay and Odessa Clay. His named changed to Muhammad Ali only on January 17, 1942 when he converted to Muslim. Considering that he is Muslim, don’t be surprised if he has married four times and have seven daughters and four sons.

Fact #3: Muhammad Ali won a gold medal in 1960 during a Summer Olympics held in Rome. Since then he used to wear the medal wherever he goes but he stopped wearing it, certain myths circulated that he threw it to the Ohio River. According to him, he actually misplaced it.

Fact #4: Muhammad Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1984 at age 42. According to reports, the disease must have been caused by the repeated blows in his head. However, there is really no proof showing that it was his boxing career that caused him to develop Parkinson’s disease.

Fact #5: The “Sportsman of the Century” of 1999 was Muhammad Ali. He was awarded by the BBC for his exceptional performance in the boxing arena.

Fact #6: “Saving life that winning World Championship” was one of the greatest words that Ali let out when he saved a kid from jumping through the window. According to reports, he appeared nowhere, climbed to the window and convinced the kid to move down safely.

Fact #7: “Thrilla in Manila” was probably the bloodiest fights that Muhammad Ali have been to with his rival Joe Frazier.  However, it was in his duel with Ken Norton that he has taken people aback by slugging Norton in 12 rounds despite his broken jaw.

Fact #8: Muhammad Ali is probably the least person you can think of to become a magician, but yes he is. An all in one magician, poet, and a singer – that is probably Ali.  Ali has a very common magic trick of making a handkerchief disappear in his hands. He was also able to produce a soundtrack in a Columbian studio featuring his poems and songs.

Fact #9: Muhammad Ali would usually answer in a rap song during his pre-match interviews. He was able to arrange words very quickly to create a rhyme about he will win a fight and trash talk about his enemies. Although it was not such a good practice, it made him famous.

Fact #10: Muhammad Ali is a 6-footer with a height of approximately 6 meters and inches. He was the youngest boxer to have won a heavyweight championship in 1965 against Liston. During such time, his age was only 22.
