Mosquitoes are known as the deadliest insects among all and they are hated all over the world. Not only their presence in the open space is annoying, rather they are a source of causing many deadly diseases as well. The diseases caused by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue fever and other skin allergies as well. Mosquitoes are usually found in the open spaces where there is any stagnant water or there is big amount of garbage. The scientific name of mosquitoes is Culicid and heir average life span is 0.027 year, for male adult mosquito. In summers, people use many cures in order to kill mosquitoes. Dangerous specie of mosquito is the dengue mosquito which has found to be very harmful for the humans. Every year, many deaths have been reported by the hospitals caused by dengue mosquito. There are many interesting facts about the mosquito which most of the people are unaware of. This article will be focusing on some of the interesting facts about the mosquitoes, which are as follows:

FACT 1:

The most deadly insect known in the world is mosquito. Among all those animals or insects that cause death, mosquito comes at the top of the list. Some of the diseases caused by mosquito include Malaria, Dengue fever, yellow fever. Mosquitoes are not only harmful for humans but they can cause serious diseases in animals as well. It carries a heartworm, which can cause serious consequences to a dog.

FACT 2:

Ever think that what are the duties of male and female mosquito? The interesting fact is that only the female mosquito feeds herself by sucking blood of humans and animals. This is because the female mosquito is one who is involved in the reproduction process, so she needs some blood feed to provide nourishment to her eggs,  whereas male mosquito feeds himself through flower nectar.

FACT 3:

Mosquitos are very fast, and this is the reason that why you cannot kill a mosquito in seconds, because when you go closer to kill them, they fly why. The reason behind this activity of mosquito is its speed of flying. The average speed of mosquito lies between 1 and 1.5 miles per hour.

FACT 4:

Why mosquitoes buzz in our ear? The reason is that they can feel carbon dioxide up to 100 feet away. Since we exhale carbon dioxide from mouth and nose, which is why mosquitoes mostly come near to our ear and nose, leading to self slapping during the sleep.

FACT 5:

Malaria infects around 250 million people every year globally and kills about one million children in Africa. About a fifth of those deaths can be attributed to counterfeit anti-malarial drugs.

FACT 6:

It is surprising to know that just like humans; the female mosquito is also known to live longer than male mosquito. If the environmental conditions are ideal, a female mosquito can live for about a month and male mosquito only live for two to three weeks.

FACT 7:

Mosquitoes are known as one of the slowest flying insects, because it flies at a speed of between 1 and 1.5 miles per hours, also, an average mosquito weighs 2 to 2.5 milligrams, which helps them to fly even more swiftly.

FACT 8:

Another interesting fact about mosquito is that the smell of chocolate confuses them. The smell of chocolate can stun these mosquitoes, as a result of which it becomes difficult for them to find their next dinner.

FACT 9:

Do you know what does the word “mosquito” means? It is a Spanish word which means “little fly”.

FACT 10:

People use a lot of stuff in order to get rid of these deadly mosquitoes. Sprays and mosquito repellents does not work for a long period of time and leave bad smell as well. The interesting fact is that the best way to get rid of the mosquitoes is a fan! Because mosquitoes have a very light weight so it becomes difficult for them to continue their flight in the presence of fan, hence they fail to point on their selected target.
