Grass is basically everywhere. People can see them in various forms, shapes, and sizes. Some people grow grasses on their lawns and front yards on purpose. These grasses are grown for aesthetic or practical reasons. Other people meanwhile are annoyed by grasses that grow almost anywhere. Grasses even grow even in areas with very high temperatures like in the desert. The following are some facts about grasses:

Fact 1: Many of the food people eat actually come from grasses. Rice, wheat, and corn among many others are actually come from grass families and species. The whole world depends on these grasses for food consumption.

Fact 2: Grasses provide food for lots of other animals too. Aside from human beings, grasses are the main diet of animals that are classified as herbivores. Cows, pandas, and deer for example feed on grass for their daily and survival needs. Many insects also eat grass as their main food source.

Fact 3: Some insects consider grass as their own home. Various bugs like ants, spiders, and grasshoppers typically find shelter in grasslands where there is plenty of food to eat.

Fact 4: Bamboo is considered the tallest among different species of grass. Some people may refer to them as trees, but bamboo is actually part of the grass family. Some varieties of bamboo can reach as high as 100 feet making them the tallest of all grasses.

Fact 5: Grasses can help lower temperature. Whenever there is greenery around, the surface temperature will significantly decrease to about 30 to 40 degrees. People can feel the difference when comparing situations between areas that have concrete or soil-only surroundings versus areas wherein the lawns are planted with grasses.

Fact 6: Grasses can help prevent the erosion of soil. Similar to the benefit provided by trees, grasses will also help absorb water and protect the soil underneath from easy erosion. Thicker grasslands will basically help maintain the soil landscape when exposed to extreme weather conditions.

Fact 7: Sugar also comes from grasses. Sugarcane is another form of grass and from which table sugar can be produced. Without sugarcane, the common table sugar cannot be produced and people will need to find alternatives to find a sweetening product.

Fact 8: At least 20% of the world is covered with grasses. Various areas in many parts of the world are covered with thick vegetation with grasses as the main component. Almost all habitats have some form of grass even in snowy and desert-like environments.

Fact 9: The most popular sport in the world which is football relies heavily on grass. Football arenas and stadiums are typically planted with special grasses that help the players of the game be at their best. The special qualities of grass literally help the bounce in the ball and provides for a soft playing field.

Fact 10: Grasses help clean out the air. Along with other plants, the leaves in grasses are able to trap harmful particles from the air like dust and dirt. This simply means that air is being filtered out with these unwanted particles making it cleaner and safer.
