Fact 1: China is located in the eastern part of Asia. The country is bordered by the Korea Bay, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea. China is situated between North Korea and Vietnam. The geographical coordinates of China are 35.00 N and 105.00 E. The total Chinese territory has an area of 9,596,961 square kilometers. The land area in it is 9,569,901 square kilometers.

Fact 2: The length of the coastline in China is 14, 500 kilometers. The boundaries of the land in China have a length of 22,117 kilometers. The land available for irrigation in China is 641,410 square kilometers as per the 2003 statistics.

Fact 3: The lowest point in China is at Turpan Pendi, which is in the height of 154 meters. The highest point is present at Mount Everest which has the height of 8,850 meters.

Fact 4: The various ethnic groups of China are: Han Chinese, Yi, Manchu, Tujia, Zhuang, Mongol, Hui, Uighur, Miao, Tibetan, Buyi, Yao, Dong, Korean, etc., according to the census taken in the year 2000. The Han Chinese group occupy 91.5 percent of the population.

Fact 5: The various languages spoken by the different people in China include: Standard Chinese or Mandarin, Wu, Minnan, Yue, Minbei, Gan, Xiang, Hakka dialects, etc.

Fact 6: As per the survey conducted in the year 2011, the total population of China is 1,343,239,923. The people in China belong to various religions such as Daoism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.

Fact 7: In the total population, 92.2 percent are literates. The literacy in males is evaluated as 96 percent while in females it is evaluated as 88.5 percent. These statistics were estimated in the year 2007.

Fact 8: The Shang Dynasty of Ancient China introduced bronze weapons. A system of writing called calligraphy was invented during the period of the Shang Dynasty.

Fact 9:  The currency of China is Renminbi/Yuan. The Tree Peony, or Mudan, is  considered China’s national favorite. China Ginkgo is the oldest tree in the world.

Fact 10: October 1st is celebrated as the National Day of China as the People’s Republic of China was founded on that day in 1949.
