Acne is a maligned affliction experienced mainly by teenagers worldwide. It is a skin condition that has the tendency to cause pimples called whiteheads, blackheads, or red, inflamed skin known as cysts. Acne occurs when pores of the skin become clogged.

Fact 1. Korean research has found an antioxidant called EGCG in green tea leaves that could considerably reduce inflammation within two months. As green tea has been consumed for centuries in Korea, the formulation is regarded as safe.

Fact 2. Most people have the pre-conceived notion that chocolates can cause acne. This is possible as it is the sugar and the milk that causes acne.

Fact 3. Cortisol levels, which are found in testosterone, have a direct relationship to the occurrence of acne.

Fact 4. Chinese herbal companies have introduced herbs which have been used for centuries to curb acne and balance hormones. Fact 7. An ancient notion that an increase in sexual desires would be exhibited as acne is not true. The belief originated to discourage young people from indulging in pre-marital sex.

Fact 8. In Indian Ayurvedic treatment, garlic, is recommended to reduce the occurrence of acne. Cumin seeds, turmeric, sandalwood are other recommended substances. Drinking water is also advised to flush out internal toxins.

Fact 9. In terms of detoxifying the body to get rid of impurities, colonic cleansing treatments are recommended. This would remove impurities in the blood and ultimately not encourage the formation of acne.

Fact 10. Studies indicate that acne is rare in non-industrialised countries but appears on transformation to a Western way of life. In particular, the high consumption of starches, such as bread and pasta, contributed to high-glycemic load carbohydrates, which cause elevated blood sugar levels resulting in acne.
