The advent of Apple Inc was in recent days but in a very short span of time, the company made a remarkable progress. The beginning of this company is still a mystery to many people. The two significant founders of this company are namely Stephen Wozniak or Woz and Steve Jobs.
Both the founders were from the Silicon Valley, California. Stephen was into computers since a very early age and even left his engineering in the mid way to work for HP i.e. Hewlett-Packard.
Here are some more interesting facts to know about the Apple Inc.
- In those days, HP was known only for making minicomputers and calculators. Wozniak even went to a regular club at Menlo Park, California which was also popular as the Homebrew Computing Club.
- In the club, he learnt about minicomputers and by 1976, when he was only 26 years, he wrote a programming language, BASIC, on his own. This was meant for a fresh microprocessor.
- Talking of Jobs, he started to work for Atari, Inc when he was just 21 years and had the same desires in computers as Stephen had. They even worked together on certain electronic projects. One of which was creating the video game, Breakout for the company Atari Inc.
- Steve thought of marketing the microprocessors that were made by Stephen hence he sold them to other computer lovers with some assistance from a friend. But they did not make a good fortune on this but they sold them just to initiate a bigger project.
- They had about $1,350 dollars after Jobs sold away his Volkswagen and Wozniak, his own programmable calculator and thus started production of Apple I. the very first computer of Apple was named Apple I.
- The electronic parts were bought from a local shop named Byte Shop and made remarkable credits. The first order of Apple I was of providing 50 machines and this happened to be their first huge sale.
- Both of them began to work at the garage of Job’s house in Cupertino, California and just within a year shifted their office to a small room in the same town. Wozniak says that he wanted a computer badly in his life but that was quite big expectation for him.
- Then suddenly he realized that he could make his own machine as microprocessors wee pretty reasonably priced. Jobs had other ideas, he really wanted to come up with products that could be sold or used by others as well.
- The idea of naming the company “Apple” was Jobs idea. It happened in 1976 when he visited his friend’s farm too often. On coming back he used to share stories of Apple Museum with Stephen. The name may even come up to honour the Apple Records of the Beatles.
- Wozniak feared that the name of the company might lead to a problem and this eventually happened in 1989 when Apple Inc was sued by the Apple Records for violating trademarks. They still somehow manage to stick with the name and presently, Apple is one of the leading brands in computer electronics.
The very first Apple logo was designed by Rob Wayne but was only used for Apple I until the recent logo was designed in 1977 by Rob Janoff. It was the famous apple with a portion eaten away.
