A few interesting facts about Kwame Nkrumah

In September 21st. 1909, Kwame Nkrumah was born in the region of Nkroful in Gold Coast area of Ghana. The river Subre flows through this region and the area is also surrounded by the three forests, namely Draw River Forest Reserve, Shelter Forest Reserve and Ndumfri Forest Reserve. Nkroful is also famous for the memorial built on the first prime minister and president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah.

Some important facts about Kwame Nkrumah are:

Kwame Nkrumah studied from the Achimota School that is situated in Accra. His education course, included the period between the years 1925 up till 1935. Later for the next 5 years he studied for the profession and career of teaching in different schools in Gold Coast.

He shifted to the United States for his graduate studies in the year of 1930. He graduated there from the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.

In 1945, he travelled to Britain to organize the fifth Pan ‘“ African Congress in Manchester. Later, he travelled to London for the organization of the West African National Secretariat. These steps were taken by him for the promotion of the African decolonization.

On return of Kwame Nkrumah from the trip to Britain and London to Gold Coast, he was arrested by the British administration. However, things went in favour of Nkrumah and the British administration was pressured by the public and they had to release him. Many people from the cocoa region, including women went for a revolt for the release of Kwame Nkrumah while he was arrested, so was the popularity of the man in the region.

In 1949, he organized the people of the Gold Coast and started them with the Convention People’s party. He led the party for the peace and freedom of Africa and started with the various movements such as boycotts, strikes, civil disobedience and many others. This has led him to be the first prime minister of the territory of the Gold Coast but still under the British administration. By the year of 1957, first time in the history of Africal people, Ghana became the free state of Africa.

In 1963, Kwame Nkrumah was awarded the Lenin Peace prize by the Soviet Union.

On 19th, 23rd and the 27th day of April, 1960, by the presidential election, Kwame Nkrumah was elected to be the first president of Ghana.

In 1961, he founded Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute. This institute was for the training of the civilians of Ghana. This was led to be promoting the Pan ‘“African ideologies and recognizing the divine Power by the members of this institute in Ghana.

Kwame Nkrumah was also known to be a leading politician in Africa. He was very much inspired by the writings of the black intellectuals that gave him an idea to understand various people and make good relationships with them. This has served well in his short but eventful political career.

Kwame Nkrumah was married to Fathia and he had 4 children. Kwame Nkrumah died in 1972, after suffering from prostate cancer at the age of 62. His remembrance is placed inside the Kwame Nkrumah memorial in Accra.
