Fact 1: Coca Cola was created as a tasty drink that would be sold at soda fountains by an Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton in 1886. He first created a flavored syrup and then mixed it with carbonated water. His partner Frank M. Robinson is credited with naming this fizzy beverage „Coca-Cola“, and for creating the script still used today.

Fact 2: Coca-Cola was first sold for 5 cents per glass.

Fact 3: Coca-Cola is served 1.9 billion times a day, globally!

Fact 4: Dr. Pemberton died just two years after creating Coca-Cola, but prior to his death he sold portions of the business to various partners, with the majority going to Atlanta businessman Asa G. Candler.

Fact 5: Coca-Cola was first bottled in 1894 at the initiative of Joseph Biedenharn who installed bottling machinery at the Mississippi soda fountain.

Fact 6: The contour bottle, still available today, was first created in 1916.

Fact 15: The modern interpretation of Santa Claus is Coca-Cola’s creation!  Santa Claus was depicted in various ways before Coca-Cola created the plump, red cheeked, white bearded, jolly man in a red suit in 1931, for an advertising campaign. The ads were so popular that they affected the way Americans and the world view Santa Clause.

Fact 16: Coca-Cola became the first soft drink consumed in space in 1985.

Fact 17: There have been many catchy Coca-Cola’s advertising slogans over the years, some of which include: “Coke adds life”, “Have a Coke and a smile”, “It’s the real thing”, “Things go better with Coke” and “Zing! What a refreshing new feeling!”.

Fact 18: In 1985, Coca-Cola executives changed the formula of the famed soft drink and named it “New Coke”. However, consumers were already hooked to the original Cola recipe and did not respond well to the change. Old Coke was quickly brought back.

Fact 19: Red Bull and Coca-Cola were leaders in social media advertising in 2014. Coca-Cola has over 89 million fans on Facebook, more than McDonald’s and Red Bull.

Fact 20: Cocaine was found in the earlier version of Coca-Cola, available in the late 19th century.

Fact 21: Coca-Cola tastes different depending on which country you purchase it in! This is because Coke isn’t distributed packaged; the bottling of this fizzy beverage is franchised. The distributor in, for example, India receives a concentrate with the patented formula for Coca-Cola and then adds water and sweeteners before packaging the drink and distributing it throughout the country. In Mexico, cane sugar is added instead of corn syrup giving their Cola a slightly different taste.

Fact 22: The World Health Organization enlisted the help of the Coca-Cola Company in an attempt to sell vaccines the way that the beverage giant sells its soft drinks. WHO accepted the advice of the Coca-Cola Company in order to overcome the public’s reluctance to vaccinate.
