What is Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution?
Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution is an antibiotic used in the treatment of eye infections. Common brand names for this type of drug include Tobrex, AKTob, Tobrasol, Apo Tobramycin, Sab Tobramycin, and Tomycine among others. This drug is a prescription medication and so an individual can only take this drug with the direction of a licensed doctor.

Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution is available in ointment and in solution or drops form. It may also be used along with other drugs or medicines for infections in the eye. One can also choose both forms of the drug, using the solution form during day time and the ointment form at night time. Patients just need to properly coordinate with his or her doctor for proper dosage.

Tobramycin is said to be effective against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermis including the strains that are considered resistant to penicillin. And though there are not enough studies on Tobramycin’s effect on fertility and pregnancy, existing test results indicate that this drug does not cause any adverse effect. In cases where hypersensitivity to the drug occurs, treatment with Tobramycin must be discontinued.
