What is Mrs. Robinson about?
“Mrs. Robinson” is about a certain character for the song with the same name by Simon and Garfunkel back in 1968. This song written by Paul Simon was originally featured in the movie “The Graduate” in 1967. The movie tells of a character named Benjamin Braddock who had an affair with an older married woman in the name of Mrs. Robinson.

In the movie, Benjamin Braddock, the main character portrayed by Dustin Hoffman, just graduated from college and has no definite plans yet on what to do next. He was at a certain party and when the party was over, he was asked by a certain Mrs. Robinson (played by Anne Bancroft) to drive her home. Mrs. Robinson happens to be the wife of his father’s law firm partner. When they got to Mrs. Robinson’s home, Benjamin was seduced by her. This incident then started an illicit affair between Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson.

The song and the film became a big hit in pop culture. The original song which was featured on the film was actually different from the one that got released as a single about a year later. But nevertheless, both song and film became hits and up to now, many people can sing along to the popular tune and quite many also remember the basic plot of the movie about Benjamin’s affair with the older and married woman named Mrs. Robinson.

The story behind the character “Mrs. Robinson” got so popular that it was continually referred to and featured in many other films. In the movie “Rumor Has It”, the song was featured along with the story line indicating that the original film – The Graduate, was actually based on real life events. Various references to the song or character were also featured in films like American Pie, Wayne’s World 2, Forrest Gump, and My Mom’s New Boyfriend among others.
