Metronidazole when combined with alcohol can cause redness and warmth of the skin, nausea, vomiting and even fast heartbeats.

Metronidazole has other side effects such as numbness, burning sensation when urinating, diarrhea, blurry vision and pain coming from the behind of the eyes, seizures and twitching, and fever, among others.

Patients who experience the above side effects must consult a doctor immediately.

There are also less harmful side effects such as stomach pains, dizziness and dry mouth, among others.

In case of overdose, it is best to bring the patient to the nearest hospital.
