What is Louisiana known for?
Louisiana is a southern state in the US with a population of almost 5 million people. This state is known for a lot of things but its largest city, New Orleans, is considered the place that defines the entire of Louisiana.

New Orleans is a city named after the Duke of Orleans which happens to be the Regent of France. With its French connection in its name, the city is also known for its French Creole architecture. A big part of the city is called the “French Quarter”, famous for its nightlife and jazz music. With a mixture of culture and multilingual heritage, New Orleans is considered the most unique city in the US. A big tourist attraction celebrated in this city is called “Mardi Gras”, which is French for “Fat Tuesday”. This is a festival that is famous around the world and is celebrated on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday which signals the start of Lenten Season for Christians. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a big celebration with a festival and carnival-like atmosphere. People in colorful costumes dance around the major streets of the city in celebration of the state’s most popular holiday. Aside from Mardi Gras, New Orleans also holds several music festivals including Jazz Fest, a gathering of the world’s best in jazz music.

But aside from New Orleans being the state’s center of tourism and entertainment, Louisiana also became famous for being greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. With the hurricane pounding on the Gulf Coast states, the city of New Orleans became the center stage of this major US natural disaster. 80% of the city was flooded with lots of houses and infrastructure damaged in one of the worst disasters in US history. But with strong resolve and resilience from its natives, Louisiana today continues to recover from the disaster and rebuilt lost homes and hopes.
