LGBT bullying refers to bullying against Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders. Some people refer to the LGBT group as sexual minorities and many of them are subject to criticism, mockery, and/or bullying. For members of the LGBT group or community, most if not all, have stories of being laughed at or ridiculed because of their looks, sexual preference, or attitude. All these are tantamount to bullying and many of them have continuously struggled to become accepted for what and who they are and for the choices they make. People who belong to the LGBT group may be generally accepted as part of every community but the bullying on them persists.
The main part of bullying people is attributed to differences in choices and opinion. For some people, being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is a moral issue. Many so-called purists of different churches emphasize that only males and females are the supposedly acceptable genders in society. Beyond this is said to contradict the main foundation of people’s faith in God. With a supposedly strong faith, some people resort to bullying activities directed towards lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders.
With all the bullying experienced by the LGBT group of people, some advocates of gender sensitivity have organized ways and programs for people to be more accepting of them. Some gender-sensitive programs are initiated in schools so children will learn to be more tolerant of other people early in life. Tolerance and acceptance is taught to children and this regardless of the other person’s sexual preference or orientation. Some so-called ‘straight’ people also support various causes that can stop LGBT bullying in every school, office, or community. Famous celebrities are even used to promote sensitivity and acceptance of LGBT people to stop the bullying against them. Various government and private agencies are also created to help the cause against bullying towards the LGBT group or to other people in general.
