What is Kenya Known For?

Kenya is a country on the East of the African continent that borders the Indian Ocean. It is a country that is blessed with great natural beauty and resources. There are many great things that Kenya is known for and they include being the cradle of mankind since the remains of what is believed to be the earliest man was found in the country. It is also the birth place of President Barack Obama’s father. Kenya has also had tremendous success in track athletics with dominance in the middle and long distance races in the Olympics, Common Wealth games as well as other international competitions. It is a country with a rich cultural heritage and an abundance of potential.

Beyond all these great things that are well known about Kenya, the single most significant thing that gives prominence to the country is it’s amazing and awe inspiring wildlife and landscape. There are more than 40 game parks and reserves spread around the country with the most famous of these being the Masaai Mara which is known around the world for the wildebeest migration that is now included among the wonders of the world. Each year there is a migration of more than a million herbivores on the plains of the Masaai Mara, across the Mara River in search of green pasture. This is a spectacle that has seen millions of tourists visiting each year and is considered by many as the most amazing natural event on African soil.

Tourism is one of the main activities for the Kenyan economy with wildlife in natural environments being a major attraction. The big five animals which include lions, elephants, buffalo,  rhino and leopard can all be seen in their natural habitat. There are many other species of animals, birds, fish, insects and plants that keep tourists visiting the country. Visitors to Kenya get to enjoy tours which are commonly known as safaris all year round because of the moderate weather conditions. Game drives and safaris not only offer a chance to see wild animals but also present an opportunity to enjoy some of the most beautiful landscape in the world. The Great Rift Valley is one of the most scenic places on earth and offers a great deal of sites that are truly memorable.

Kenya has diversity in its natural beauty with visitors getting the opportunity to visit clean unpolluted beaches, breath taking mountains, luscious forests, serene lakes, scenic wilderness and even some harsh semi desert areas.  The people who inhabit this country also contribute to its splendor by being some of the most hospitable people on the planet. There is genuine love and caring that is extended to visitors, with many people from around the world forming life long friendships with Kenyan people. Even with a diversity of culture, Kenyan people have managed to share in their appreciation of their visitors.
