‘INA certification’ refers to certification issued by the International Nanny Association.  For nannies in the U.S. and in other parts of the world, they may seek INA certification in order to help prove their knowledge, competency, and skills to their prospective employers.  Although getting a certification from INA is not required or mandatory, having it may actually be helpful and even necessary for some who would like to become nannies.  Through the certification provided by INA, nannies in the U.S. and in other parts of the world can at least provide proof of their expertise in the field of in-home child care.

The International Nanny Association actually provides various certification programs for nannies around the globe.  Many of their certification programs can be acquired by means of passing the online test.  One common certification is called the Nanny Basic Skills Exam.  This particular exam is considered the first level of nanny certification, and it is appropriate for beginners or those who are just starting to be part of the in-home child care industry.  The Nanny Basic Skills Exam can be taken online and is composed of 40 questions that relate to basic knowledge and skills in the field of health, nutrition, safety, child development, and even professionalism. The second level of certification is called the Nanny Credential Exam.  Nannies who have at least 2,000 hours of actual experience may take this test which assesses one’s practical know-how in raising or taking care of children.  This test may also be taken online, and it is composed of 90 questions in various child care concerns like learning, nutrition, child development, safety, multi-cultural awareness, and family communication, among many others.

Aside from the basic skills and credential certifications, INA also offers other certification programs for nannies with advanced skills.  There are various certifications given for those who know CPR and first aid.  Those who specialize in nutrition, child fitness and development may also be INA-certified.
