What Is IGE?
In medicine, the term IgE would refer to immunoglobulin E. It is considered one of the 5 different types of immunoglobulins for human response as well as sensitivity of the immune system. They are most commonly known as antibodies and they do belong to the family of proteins which is also called gamma globulins. The IgE came from the white blood cells, particularly, the B- lymphocytes. These IgE’s that are residing in the blood are very essential since they help the immune system. They respond when foreign substances attack the body and this includes different types of bacteria and virus.
On the down side, IgE is involved in allergic reactions and super sensitivity of the body. It also triggers one of the most allergy- causing substances in the body- the immunoglobin. However, IgE’s are also involved in the response of the immune system against the attack of parasites as well as the increase of white blood cell count, and are associated with cancer.
The IgE works by targeting the protein found on the surface of particular cells. This includes macrophages, mast cells, and many others. The result of the bonding here will be the release of inflammatory mediators producing smooth muscle inflammation as well as mucous secretions.
In short, even if it can be a down side in certain instances, this IgE has a lot of other uses. It is actually studied carefully by the researchers so that its potentials will really be explore along with its other functions and properties.
However, when IgE induces allergy, its treatment would include antihistamines. Yet, there are also some other medicines that were carefully studied in order to fight this IgE. They are still under development by researchers in the medical field. Yes, this IgE has a lot of unique characteristics and it is therefore the center of several medical studies.
