What is HVAC?
Modern buildings and the automotive industry needs to deal with comfort so people in it would comfortably do their thing. In order to bring this comfort to the people, they need a technology ‘“ HVAC or Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning. HVAC has many importances especially in the design of huge infrastructures such as tall buildings and skyscrapers.

HVAC is not only used in the design of small, medium and high-rise buildings. Marine environments also make use of HVAC. Aquariums use HVAC technology for ventilation. Comfort has always been an issue in modern facilities. To be able to give this comfort, climate control must be provided through the utilization of HVAC designs.

How does HVAC able to give climate control and provide comfort to the occupants of an infrastructure?

HVAC helps to regulate the airflow and the temperature inside an infrastructure. Moreover, HVAC designs are also concerned about the health of occupants of an infrastructure. Design must be able to deal with molds and other microorganisms that may be harmful to people’s health. To be able to deal with these harmful microorganisms HVAC systems must be well maintained and well regulated. Moreover, HVAC systems must also be well designed especially in museums. Artifacts and other historic displays in the museum needs controlled temperature and humidity for proper preservation.

HVAC systems must match that of the needs of an infrastructure or a building and so with automotive applications. The size of a building is important in order to match the right HVAC system. If an HVAC system is inappropriate for the building, efficiency and desired comfort level will not be achieved.

The most difficult task for HVAC contractors is to size up or determine the appropriate system for an infrastructure. Many factors must be considered such as maintenance and installation. Contractors recommending heating systems must accurately design the heating system. Failure to provide accurately the heating system might be more expensive for the company in a long run.

The same goes for inaccurate design for a cooling system. When an overly large cooling system is installed, the humidity may not be dehumidified efficiently. This will bring excess moisture inside the building and may cause damage to some equipment. This damages may build costs overtime. Overly large cooling system may also cause discomfort to people working in a building.

The size of an area is not enough in determining the correct design of HVAC systems. Square footage alone must not be the basis in determining HVAC system design. Several factors must be considered such as the overall construction of the building as well as the materials used. Window, door and ceiling construction must also be taken into account. Taking in consideration whether the infrastructure is renovated or new must also be noted.

Some HVAC contractors make mistakes on simply replacing older HVAC units with newer one without considering the mentioned factors. The result is an inefficient and at the same time energy-consuming HVAC system. This will cost the company more and at the same time, will not achieve the appropriate comfort needed by the building’s occupants.
