Halo is a very popular series of first-person games that run on the Microsoft platform particularly on Xbox and Xbox 360. Launched in 2001, the Halo series is considered one of the best video games in the first-person shooting category. The Halo series is also touted as one of the most expensive video games ever made. Halo’s popularity started off with the initial release of Halo: Combat Evolved that reached more than 6 million in sales. The popularity of this game continued with succeeding releases.

The main storyline of Halo revolves around its military and science fiction theme. The clash is between humans and aliens which are collectively referred to as the Covenant. The entire Covenant of aliens are ruled by so-called Prophets. The galactic war also features super soldiers called Spartans led by the character of Master Chief John 117. Along with other characters and aliens, Halo provides a great first-person shooting experience for all its gamers worldwide. The classic human soldiers vs. aliens theme is continued from the start of the Halo series up to the recent versions of the game. The concept of Halo started off with the Halo trilogy or storyline from Halo: Combat Evolved leading the way followed by Halo 2 and Halo 3. In the trilogy, the main format in terms of weapons is that supersoliders or human players only get to use or carry two different weapons. This simply forced players to carefully select the weapons they need for battle. Halo 3 being the end of the original trilogy has achieved the highest sales for the series with almost 12 million copies sold.

After the original Halo trilogy, several new versions of the game were developed and released starting with Halo Wars in 2009. From then on, four more Halo video-game versions were released with Halo 4 being the latest in 2012. All in all, the Halo series of video games sold over 50 million copies worldwide making it the biggest game in the Xbox platform.
