Google Glass refers to the wearable and computerized eyeglasses developed by Google through their Project Glass initiative. Google Glass allows access to online information similar to that of smart phones only this time the information is given through the wearable eyewear.  Its main feature is its hands-free and voice command feature to make the eyewear work and do things while connected online. The original Google Glass does not actually have lenses at its launch and only have eyewear-like frames. There are ongoing negotiations though regarding Google’s possible partnership with eyewear brands to incorporate actual lenses on Google Glass.  It was also announced by the company that once the lenses become available, prescription frames will also be made available for those who need them.

One main feature of Google Glass is its 5-megapixel camera.  Through this camera one can basically take pictures hands-free.  Through standard voice commands, images and scenes that are in front of the person wearing Google Glass can be capture instantly by simply talking to the eyewear.  The same eyewear can also be made to record videos in real time.  Watching a street parade for example may be recorded through Google Glass’ video feature. With an online connection, the same video may also be streamed as it happens over the internet and shared with other friends.  Google eyeglass also has a built-in speaker to incorporate sound seamlessly.

With Google as the company behind Google Glass, mapping and directions are also part of the total experience of wearing this computerized eyewear.  Right in front of one’s own eyes will be useful tips and directions regarding a particular location.  Instead of looking down to a mobile phone or device to check on where is one going, Google Glass makes it possible that the directions are viewed literally in front through their eyewear technology.  Sending messages to friends may also be done through Google Glass.  One doesn’t need to have a mobile phone to communicate with friends via text messages for example.  Using simple voice commands, messages may be sent through the eyewear with the help of an online connection.
