What started out as a division between musical tastes with some people preferring Gaza’s style while others joining the group of Gully.  Both Gaza and Gully are also guilty of promoting or allowing violence among their followers instead of just letting them enjoy their dancehall or music experiences.

From the musical division it started off with, Gaza and Gully have eventually become some kind of mainstream division between many people in Jamaica.  Some musical events are specially labelled as either Gaza or Gully country and non-followers are sometimes subject to verbal abuse and physical violence.  In many parts across Jamaica, followers of the popular artists sometimes get mugged or even get killed inside dance halls because of the deepening feud between the two gangster-like factions.  For some people, the musical rivalry between Gaza and Gully is said to produce more creativity and innovation in their field of music but unfortunately has also promoted a gangster-like lifestyle among the avid followers.

With increasing incidence of violence among the followers of Gaza and Gully, both were called up by the Jamaican government to finally stop the aggressive and violent lifestyle that stems out from people’s love of their music.  Even school children have become part of the violent culture promoted by Gaza and Gully’s music and following.  The talks with the government are basically intended to have the two factions promote peaceful competition rather than aggressive rivalry.
